MOSCOW, Jul 3 (PRIME) -- Indonesian national fertilizer producer PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) may reject imports of Russian fertilizers because of the logistics problems and turn to the Middle East instead, Indonesian newswire Detik reported on Monday citing Senior Executive Vice President for Marketing Operation Gatoet Gembiro Noegroho.
“This step is due to the consequences of the Russian–Ukrainian conflict that made supplies of (Russian) raw materials for fertilizers unstable,” Noegroho said as quoted by Detik.
The company is assessing other options like supplies from Morocco, Jordan, or Egypt as well as importing raw materials from the neighboring states like Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar in order to cover the lack of materials for production of fertilizers.
“We have been receiving potassium from Canada, Russia, Belarus, and Jordan until recently. But we are also considering working with the other countries that produce potassium like Laos so that supplies of raw materials are stable and support national food security,” he said.
